Jack Sawyer.
Pickerington kid.
Ohio native
Captain.
And now, Buckeye legend.
Of course it had to be him.
As I sprinted around my living room, the replay of his 83-yard scoop and score flashed across my TV screen on repeat for what felt like hours, it all felt poetic.
Have you ever watched a game, and you noticed a play that even in that moment made you realize that it was a play you would see for the rest of your life?
That was Jack Sawyers’ play for me.
There are moments in sports that just feel like destiny, almost like they’re scripted parts of an immaculate movie you’re watching play out right in front of you.
Ohio State’s season feels like that.
It feels like destiny for this team to go out and win it all, even after everything they’ve gone through this season. From the early season loss at Oregon, to whatever the heck that was at the end of November, this team has grown into what every Ohio State fan knew they could be.
But the jobs not done.
Notre Dame is another team in the gauntlet that has stood in the way of this team accomplishing their number one task.
To win it all.
Sawyer wrote a brilliant article for the Players Tribune this past week that’s 100% worth checking out, especially if you’re a Buckeye.
He recaps his tenure at Ohio State, the highs and lows, and gives some behind the scenes details on how this senior class decided to #ReloadtheClip to compete for a championship. It’s fascinating. One part in particular stuck out to me, as he recapped this season and recounted that horrific loss to TTUN, he talked about the mindset this team had heading into the playoffs.
“We could quit, like we knew everyone wanted us to … or be the best team in the country, like we know we are.
We chose Option B.”
This Monday, I’m begging this team to continue to choose option B.
Go Bucks!
