Ryan Day must read my blogs, I’m convinced.
In my previous blog, I wrote about how the situation Day and the Buckeye faithful are currently found themselves in, felt eerily similar to that of Michigan and Harbaugh right before he turned it around, won three straight Big Ten Titles, defeated Ohio State 3 years straight, and oh yeah won the whole dang thing.
The Tennessee game was a crossroads for the career of Ryan Day. They lose that game and it likely marks the end of his tenure as the leader of this historic program. Win, and the pressure remains but the seat gets a little colder. Win the whole dang thing? Well now we’re talking!
The Buckeyes have responded beautifully since the letdown of the century (even that feels like an understatement). They handled business in a convincing win against a Tennessee team that vowed to take over the shoe (They didn’t).
They walked into a rematch against an undefeated Oregon that appeared unstoppable by anyone who had watched an ounce of college football this season. Their offense was electric, the defense was fast and strong, they had talent littered all over the depth chart.
And it just didn’t matter.
The Buckeyes returned from their perfect display against the Volunteers with an even better start against the Ducks. Jumping out to a 34-0 lead before Oregon finally found their way onto the scoreboard. They were in complete control from start to finish.
Jack Sawyer, JTT, Cody Simon, Lathan Ransom, and Caleb Downs led the Silver Bullets the way we’ve all been wanting to see them for awhile now. They were chaotic, fearless, hard hitting, fast, and hungry.
The offense? Electric and composed. This Buckeye team has put together back to back convincing wins that makes it hard to believe that any team in the nation can compete with them and if they keep this level of hunger up, I genuinely believe they will be the champions at the end of the season.
Texas is no pushover. A defense that will be the best the Buckeyes have faced, an offense with high level QB play, elusive and electric playmakers and a RB that rivals any in the nation. The Buckeyes will have their hands full yet again in what has been the toughest part of the CFP bracket, and to top it off, it will essentially be a home game for the Longhorns.
If the Buckeyes can pull off another win, it won’t be by luck, they will have earned the right to compete for a Natty. If they can do that, Ryan Day can finally close the questions surrounding his ability to get the job done, his job will be safe, and the seniors will get the sendoff they deserve.
O-H!
